This particular S. novi-belgii cultivar was one of Ernest Ballard’s first, raised in 1905. In 1907 it was entered into an RHS trial of asters and was the only cultivar of 300 entered to be awarded an FCC. It was heralded as the first true double and a colour breakthrough.
